Joe is the founder and president of ETA Benefits Group and has 31 years’ experience in the insurance and health care industries. Since opening its doors in 1999, ETA Benefits Group has grown into a thriving small business and well-respected industry leader. Joe is especially proud to have his business based in his hometown of Nesquehoning, PA (Carbon County).

Joe’s early career included positions in hospital administration, primarily finance and business office operations. He was part of the developmental team of Valley Preferred, a preferred provider organization (PPO) network owned by Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) and its affiliated physicians. Most of his time at LVHN was devoted to physician relations and network development initiatives. His diverse background in healthcare provided a deep knowledge base for his specialized work with group health care plans.

Joe has a Bachelor’s degree in Health Planning and Administration from Penn State University and has been licensed in life, auto, and health since 1996. He currently resides in Nesquehoning with his family and serves as president of the Tamaqua Industrial Development Enterprises (TIDE) board. He is also a longtime member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). Outside of the office, Joe is a “foodie” and enjoys fishing, gardening, and traveling.

Ed joined ETA Benefits Group in 2004 and has 24 years’ experience in the insurance industry. He specializes in group health physician practices and personal lines (home and auto). He currently holds Pennsylvania insurance licenses for accident and health, life, and property and casualty. Ed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Marketing from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, which he attended on a full basketball scholarship. Ed’s athletic career includes 1,000 points scored at both the high school and college levels, and he is a member of both the Tamaqua High School and Carbon County Sports Halls of Fame. Ed is active with various local youth sports teams. He is a board member of the Tamaqua Area Baseball Association and a volunteer coach for the Tamaqua Area girls’ varsity basketball team. Ed resides in Hometown with his wife Kristine. They have three children: sons Christopher and Eddie, and daughter Emily.


 Denise Wolfe, Consultant, Property & Casualty

Denise joined the firm in 2006 and has over 25 years of business experience developing property and casualty insurance programs to businesses throughout Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania. She was instrumental in the development and implementation of the property and casualty division and continues to serve as lead consultant. Wolfe has extensive experience with personal lines as well as commercial lines of coverage and has skills in underwriting, rating systems, proposals and group customer contracts.

She currently serves as secretary of West Hazleton Baseball Association, treasurer of the Valley West Hazleton Wolfpack travel baseball team, and secretary for Faith United Church of Christ.

Patrick joined ETA in 2011 and has 24 years’ experience in the insurance industry. He specializes in health, life, employee benefits, property/liability, and workers’ compensation coverages and holds Pennsylvania insurance licenses in health, life and annuities, and property/casualty. Patrick earned his certified insurance counselor (CIC) designation, the insurance industry’s premier certification, in 2002 and remains committed to expanding his education within the field. He is a native of Washington, D.C. and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Maryland. Patrick serves as a board member for the Schuylkill United Way and St. Joseph’s Center for Special Learning in Pottsville. He resides in Schuylkill County with his wife and two sons and enjoys cooking, golfing, and traveling.


 Joann Chickilly, Licensed Producer / Office Assistant

Joann joined ETA Benefits Group in November 2016 and has 11 years’ experience in the insurance industry, specializing in auto and home. She is the friendly face who greets all visitors to our office and handles the insurance needs of our walk-in customers. Joann was a military spouse for 23 years. She resides in Summit Hill with her husband, Michael, and has two sons and two grandsons. Outside of the office, Joann enjoys traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.


 Sara Karnish, Marketing / Communications Assistant

Sara joined ETA Benefits Group in April 2017. In her current role, Sara is responsible for assisting with all marketing and communications initiatives for ETA Benefits Group, including maintaining the agency’s social media platforms, website, blog, and monthly e-newsletters. She has a strong background in the communications industry and previously worked in the nonprofit, higher education, and financial services sectors. Sara has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Lebanon Valley College. She resides in Summit Hill with her family and enjoys reading, writing, traveling, trying new restaurants, and attending concerts.


 Wendy A. Shubeck, Customer Service Representative / Accounting

Wendy joined ETA Benefits Group in 2015. Initially hired as our office receptionist, Wendy was quickly promoted to ETA’s very first CSR position. In this role, Wendy provides customer service support to our clients as well as handling the accounting for our office, including A/R, A/P, commissions, quoting, and payments. Wendy lives in Nesquehoning with her husband Frank, has two children: Ashley and Frank, Jr., a granddaughter, Madilyn, and a fur kid, Tebow. Outside of the office Wendy enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and reading, and admits her guilty pleasure is entering online radio contests.


 Renee Slakoper, Executive Assistant / Account Manager

Renee has been with ETA Benefits Group since 2011. In her current role, Renee is responsible for administrative support to the president as well as account manager, property manager, human resources, payroll, and marketing. Renee resides in Lansford with her “fur kids” Hanna and Mahkah. Outside of the office Renee volunteers with the Carbon County Veterans Parade and enjoys photography.
